e·clec·tic (ĭ-klěk’tĭk) adj.
1. Selecting or employing individual elements from a variety of sources, systems, or styles: an eclectic taste in music; an eclectic approach to managing the economy.
2. Made up of or combining elements from a variety of sources: “a popular bar patronized by an eclectic collection of artists, writers, secretaries and aging soldiers on reserve duty” (Curtis Wilkie).
And so it came to be that we found ourselves living full time in an RV . . . workamping in a sense . . . in our own driveway.
Welcome to our “travel journal”!
In December, 2000, while staying in a 16 foot hybrid trailer on Mustang Island near Port Aransas, TX, we decided that the thing for us was to get a larger trailer and to become full time RVers. Yep, that’d be the life for us . . . and never mind that at that moment it was cold and windy and drafty in our little trailer. And raining outside and that the trailer was leaking and that my (Dave’s) side of the bed was soaked!
I suppose that beginning helps to explain what two normal (in at least the opinions of a few) people are doing living full time, in a 36 foot 5th wheel . . . in their own driveway. Or maybe not? We’ll fill in some details as we go along, but for now just know that we’ve (temporarily) managed to remove much of the notion of “recreation” and pretty nearly all the point of “vehicle” from the term “recreational vehicle” – and here we are!
From that bit of introduction, other questions flow: How are we managing to transition from 6,000 square feet – packed totally full of stuff – to living in less than 400 square feet parked in front of a (soon to be) empty house? What is the point in being a full time RVer if you’re never actually going anywhere? What do you do while sitting in your driveway all day? And doesn’t a lack of travel sort of challenge the point of creating a travel journal?
Good questions – those and lots of others. In the future we will deal with most of them. For now let’s simply note that there are thousands of people – studies indicate there are hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions – who would like to live and travel full time in an RV, but simply don’t know how to get started. This journal exists in large part to serve those individuals as a guide through the transition to “Full Time RVer”. (That’s not to say that we have all the answers. If that were so we wouldn’t be sitting here in our driveway more than 9 YEARS after voicing our dream!)
Over these next few months we plan on having a good time here in the driveway. We hope you’ll enjoy that time with us and that you’ll check back often!
We’d love to hear from you as you progress on your life’s journey. We hope you will feel free to leave messages on this site, or to contact us directly at either Dave@2SKPs.com or Kay@2SKPs.com.

Wow! Your rig has 400 square feet? That’s palatial compared to our 300 square feet. What a great way to make the transition from a brick and mortar home to an RV. You get plenty of time to test out different arrangements and the “need” for different items before you hit the road.
We’ve been on the road close to a year now and are tickled by how comfortable we are in our “little home.” All that stuff that was so important at one time has no relevance in our new lifestyle. How freeing!
Have fun, you two!
Thanks for stopping by and for the encouraging words! Love to you both!!
Very nice arangement. Here in Sweden we have a different system with containers on top of each other. You can make some kind of tower with different sprouts.
Thanks for the comment! We have used sprouters of the type you mention, but find – for our purposes – that the type pictured work better. They have a larger capacity (about 1 quart/liter each) than the stacked units we’ve used. Also, we find that with these units it is easier to thoroughly rinse the sprouts. Thanks again!!
Hi Dave and Kay. Faith and I really enjoyed our on-site visit to your home on wheels. It’s a really sweet RV! With all those beautiful woodlands and wildlife around, I see why you enjoy living “on the road” so much. We were inspired to say the least. I learned a lot from the travel experiences you had to share. They gave us some good insights we can use for sure. Hope all is well. We look forward to traveling by again – maybe we can camp out together – that would be great fun!
